Red Lodge Skijoring 2020
Red Lodge Ski-Joring Association has been hosting the National Finals Ski-Joring Races since 1986.
The National Finals are an action packed competition wherein teams of horse, rider and skier negotiate a 700+ foot course, the horse and rider taking a track to the inside of the course while the skier in tow, negotiates 20-some slalom gates and four jumps in hopes of completing two fast, clean runs. That isn’t so easy at speeds sometimes topping 25 mph.
Awards go to the fastest combined times for the two day event as well as fastest times each day.
There is a separate “longest jump” competition wherein the rider and horse pull their skier over one jump for the longest distance each day. Distances have exceeded 60 feet!
Races start at noon both days and commence at approximately 3pm. This year we will be adding more family fun events including wagon rides, a kids’ activity tent, and s’mores station.
Join us Saturday night at Bogart’s Restaurant for a Calcutta of the Open, Sport, and Long Jump divisions, where proceeds benefit two local charities. And on Sunday we will be hosting our first annual chili cook-off to benefit the Baretooth Cupboards (our local foodbank).
