On Oct. 7-8, George McCauley and Phil Mahn will dive right into direct procedures for creating works that are effective for the low-fire wood process. Both artists will create work, answer questions from workshop students, explain their methods from aesthetic and educational perspectives, cover technical materials, tell stories, engage the audience and be entertaining. They will also assemble and complete works to demonstrate how they finish pieces. This will include surface decoration and techniques, including underglaze methods, decorating on greenware and majolica on bisque. From Oct 20-22, students have the opportunity to fire with George and Phil in the kiln they built at the Mahn Complex in Florence. Participants should count on three days for the firing process and prepare for a fun and educational weekend. Workshop participants are invited to camp on Phil’s private property, and will have access to indoor bathroom and kitchen facilities.
