Billings Studio Theatre originated as a Sunday evening play-reading group in the homes of passionate early members. As membership in the fledgling theatre group grew, donations of space by Eastern Montana College and the YWCA allowed the group to become a firmly established part of the community. As time passed, the group expanded to producing plays on radio and on stage. They also started conducting workshops in radio production, makeup, accents, dialects, and many other facets of the theatre and dramatic arts.

Lombardi- January 31st-February 15th Sport produces great human drama, and there is no greater sports icon to bring to theatrical life than Hall of Fame football coach Vince Lombardi, unquestionably one of the most inspirational and quotable personalities of all time. Though football’s Super Bowl trophy is named for him, few know the real story of Lombardi the man—his inspirations, his passions and his ability to drive people to achieve what they never thought possible.
Pump Boys and Dinettes- March 7th-March 22nd On Highway 57 stands a roadside gas station across the blacktop from “The Double Cupp Diner”. Jim, Jackson, Eddie and L.M. have been known to do a few auto repairs, but only when aided by quantities of spare time and beer. The neighborly Cupp sisters, Prudie and Rhetta, offer homestyle cooking with zest and zeal. Pump Boys and Dinettes is a musical tribute to life by the roadside with good friends, good music and life’s simple pleasures. There are pie raffles, snapshots of winners in the lobby, and music galore. It’s refreshing as a cold beer after a bowl of five alarm chili.
Church Basement Ladies 2: A Second Helping- April 4th-April 19th A sequel to the popular Church Basement Ladies, Church Basement Ladies 2 is a humorous dedication to the stalwart, underappreciated women who volunteer to work in the church kitchen. The world is changing in this small, rural Minnesota community, and the ladies of the Lutheran church basement kitchen deal with it all through their heartwarming humor and hilarious antics. They serve all events, from the High School students at the Luther League Banquet to the rise and fall of a Viking’s Super Bowl Sunday. From the matriarch to the young mom-to-be, they find strength in each other as they serve all from below the “House of God!”
Chemical Imbalance- May 2nd- May 17th A darkly comic adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Set in Victorian England, repressed impulses burst their corsets as Dr. Jekyll’s experiments in the nature of evil threaten to reveal the bloody hands beneath the gloves of the British Empire. A fast paced romp about men and women tightrope walking the line between aristocracy and depravity, and between the twin specters of good and evil. Chemical Imbalance is an ingenious two-act horror-farce with a touch of the macabre. An evening of exhilarating entertainment where the plot is sinister and the humor is nonstop.
Shrek: The Musical- June 6th-June 28th Based on the 2001 DreamWorks film Shrek and William Steig’s 1990 book Shrek!. In a faraway kingdom turned upside down, things get UGLY when an unseemly ogre, (who is a really nice guy) shows up to rescue a feisty princess with an unattractive side. Throw in a donkey (who really is an ASS) who will not shut up, a villain with a SHORT temper, a cookie with an attitude and a slew of other fairytale misfits, and you’ve got the kind of mess that calls for a hero.
A big GREEN hero! His name is Shrek!
