Each year, on the first Saturday of June, the American Hiking Society and the trails community invite Americans of all ages and abilities to find their own adventure and discover their unique story at one of the thousands of National Trails Day events hosted throughout the country.
This year, the Bob Marshall Wilderness Foundation will hold a NTD event in partnership with the USFS to complete a variety of trails and trailhead-related tasks including drainage work, clearing, and gravel hauling.
On Saturday, June 3, volunteers will contribute to our country's wilderness heritage by working on popular trails in The Bob. This year, the group is focusing on popular trails departing from the Indian Meadows trailhead located near Lincoln, MT. Volunteers will use pulaskis for tread work, loppers for brushing the trail corridor, and cross-cut saws to cut fallen trees. After a day of work, volunteers will be treated to a tailgate BBQ at the Indian Meadows Cabin from 4-6 pm where they’ll enjoy a Tailgate Talk by the Montana Noxious Weeds Education Campaign. Registration is required.
By coordinating a wide array of trail activities on a single day, National Trails Day attracts new trail users and helps existing trail enthusiasts with local clubs and organizations to create trail advocates and stewards. Every trail invites stewardship and adventure and since its inception, BMWF volunteers have cleared and maintained over 5,000 miles of trail.
This event is made possible through the generosity of BMWF volunteers, donors, and community partners. For more information about National Trails Day, to learn how to donate, or how to volunteer, please contact Jessica Evans at [email protected] or 406-387- 3822.
