WSE’s Livingston Farmers Market kicks off its summer season on Wednesday, May 31st, with Wildfire Preparedness Day, starting at 4:30 pm at Miles Band Shell Park, next to the Livingston Civic Center. This special farmers market event is sponsored by Park County FireSafe Coalition, who will provide information on how to prepare for the upcoming wildfire season. Kids can meet Smokey Bear and take photos with him, see a fire engine and rescue vehicle, and even squirt a fire hose. The Yellowstone Ballet School will perform at 4:30 p.m., and the Park High Jazz Ensemble will take the stage at 5:30.
Miranda Bly is the new Farmers Market Manager. This will be her fifth year at the Livingston Farmers Market but her first year as its manager. She has several special days planned for the market, including some old staples, such as YES Kids Day where kids get a booth for free, Community Health Day, Mental Health Awareness Day, Plein Air Art on the Levy Day where you can watch artists in action, Farm & Ranch Appreciation Day where all produce vendors get a free booth, Open Land/Active Community Day, and Performing Arts Day, which will include performances from Company by the Shane Lalani Players. Additional days will include Fitness Day: Body, Mind & Soul, Savor Livingston, and LivGreen Day.
This summer’s farmers market will run from May 31st through September 20th and will be held in Miles Band Shell Park, rain or shine. River Drive will be closed during the farmers market each week from Yellowstone Street to the Civic Center parking lot, which will remain open for farmers market parking. This is the same closure that Summerfest does. This will help provide a safe area for pedestrians and bicyclists and allow the market to expand into and across the road.
Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program vouchers will be available at Western Sustainability Exchange’s booth in July until supplies run out.
