Dragon Boat racing has come to Montana. The 4th annual Montana Dragon Boat Festival will be held on Flathead Lake, the largest freshwater lake west of the Mississippi River.
The sport of Dragon Boat racing originated more than 2,300 years ago. Today it is found in 64 countries and is the eighth fastest growing sport in the world. Teams of 20 paddlers, a drummer, and a steer person compete against each other in colorful and ornate 46-feet-long boats. All ages and skill levels can participate, making the sport a popular team-building experience for businesses and organizations.
This year's festival is expected to attract 2,000 paddlers and several thousand spectators from all over North America. The festival includes a Made-in-Montana Art Fair, music, kids' activities and food vendors, all in one of the world's most beautiful settings.
