Lewis & Clark Festival Float Trip: The White Cliffs of the Missouri Trip -- GREAT FALLS -- June 26th - 28th

June 26th

The White Cliffs section of the Missouri River is a national Wild and Scenic River which flows through the Upper Missouri River Breaks National Monument. Enjoy this beautiful and historic stretch of river that has changed little since Lewis and Clark marveled at its “scenes of visionary enchantment”. White sandstone cliffs, volcanic intrusions, and fascinating eerie rock formations continue to intrigue present day floaters. This is a relatively calm water trip providing ample time for relaxation, hiking and exploration.

Witness firsthand the enchantment of this area that mesmerized Lewis and Clark and other early explorers. You will see Lewis and Clark and Native American campsites, teepee rings, old homesteads, spectacular geological formations including the Hole in the Wall, Labarge and Citadel Rock, an exciting hike up the “Narrows”, a fascinating slot canyon, and much more.

While on the river we will enjoy a moderate float or paddle of about 10 - 20 miles per day. This allows ample time to get out and explore the area. We will offer several hikes to historical sites, side canyons, vistas, and old homesteads, with some time to swim, hike, fish, or just relax and enjoy the comfortable, safari style camps while staff prepares superb meals and tends to camp chores. Generally we have two people to a large tent, complete with comfortable cots and pads. This is a 3 day/2 night river journey by kayak or canoe. The trip to the launch site at Coal Banks Landing is a scenic and pleasant 1 ½ hour drive. The take out at Judith Landing is about a 2-½ hour ride back to Great Falls.
