Home. The word conjures up many thoughts about sanctuary, castle, refuge, haven… It is, after all, the American Dream. A place to gather with family and friends, to build memories, and to retreat from the rigors of life.
Homes are outward expressions of ideals and accomplishments. In many ways, they are a legacy. A monument to those who breathed life into the brick and mortar, sticks and stones which they are composed.
The images shown here are of a home nestled among the trees that border Flathead Lake in the Woods Bay section south of Bigfork. About 9000 square feet, the home features the best in log construction, logs which were provided by Pioneer Log Homes. Built by Hill Day Construction approximately 10 years ago, the design includes large rooms, a topnotch kitchen, natural stone bath, and grand decks.
In many ways, our homes are the ultimate fusion of man and nature. Upon this tapestry, skilled craftsmen sketch their portraits of wood and stone. In few places is there such a canvas as Montana’s Flathead Lake.
From a perch on the deck or from the window sunrise and sunset may be seen on the horizon, shimmering gold, dancing with azure. A tribute to the elements of nature, the rock, timber, and stone harmonize with the surrounding water and sky; dancing to the melody the shoreline breezes play through the gentle larch. Magnificent windows blur the distinction between interior and exterior. Nature is invited in, a welcome guest at any time.
This home embraces its visitors with an entry whose great timbers are reminiscent of the brave and mighty Norsemen. It was their custom that the high ceilings and grand rooms be large enough to house the spirits of their forefathers, that their presence be among them for eternity. In that tradition, the home hosts many friends, who can take pleasure in the glorious space. Space that is illuminated by subtle glows and hues of crafted oak and pine. Space that is warmed by a massive hearth.

The house will always be the pride of the men who built it -- craftsmen, such as Larry Hill and Dan Day, and the skills of many others who turned this vision into reality. For them, this house will be a testament to their skill. But for the owners, it will be known as their castle.
