Until recently, a heart attack in bozeman meant a flight to billings for life-saving treatment. but an interventional cardiologist arrived in bozeman in august 2005. to date, 113 local patients with blocked coronary arteries - including a 41-year-old man - were successfully treated at bozeman deaconess hospital.

The founder and ceo of wheat montana, dean folkvord, is one of montana’s most successful “small business” owners. for almost 20 years he has directed a concern that grows wheat and provides products made from it. the family farm is located in broadwater county near three forks, on 11,000 acres that are mostly dry-farmed.

Dentists put fish tanks in their waiting rooms to calm patients down before their appointment. insomniacs buy noise machines that mimic running water to try to soothe themselves to sleep. and homeowners in ever-increasing numbers want to add the pacific effects of water to their yards and gardens.

n a state famous for pristine creeks and blue ribbon trout streams, montana also is home to hundreds of fantastic lakes and reservoirs. these vary in size, from the small local fishing ponds, to flathead lake, largest natural freshwater lake west of the mississippi river.

Henry “rip” mcintosh tells a familiar story. he visited montana more than 50 years ago and has dreamed about coming back ever since then.

“Technology goes beyond the limits of your imagination,” says herb metier, at ease in the coziness of his 3,000 square-foot showroom, recently opened on 1007 east main street, bozeman. here a series of rooms are furnished rustically, and cushioned chairs face or surround wide flat viewing screens and rock walls. as one walks in, the fragrance is new leather and wood.  an electronic fireplace that can be lit by a hand wave welcomes you in the entrance of the building. the gurgling of a decorative water fountain is the backdrop in this quiet “high- technology” forest.
